After a wonderful day off in the snow, my mom and I finally made it into London on Wednesday night to see the crazy performance of Mamma Mia. To be sure I could make it into work the next day without snow delays we stayed with our family friends in town, after we danced the night away at the musical. Thursday morning I made my way to the underground station and arrived back at work in the Sales and Marketing Department. I organized the large Ritz booklets given to potential clients and worked on more spreadsheets on my laptop. For a change of scenery Alice took me to see The Ritz archives. Filling cabinets, books, boxes and more filled with the history of the hotel from the early 1900's. I flipped through all the old menus and photos of the hotel since it first opened. Surprisingly the hotel has the same appearance from the outside, minus the horse and buggies ofcourse. Just this week they have started the restoration of the hotel and they have just started power washing the entire outside of the building. We then went off into the hotel to deliver packages, pick up boxes and place orders in the purchasing office. I finished my day and I jumped back on the Tube to meet my mom at the National Portrait Gallery, where the new "Beatles to Bowie" exhibit is showing. Once we'd gotten our fix of pictures of bands from the 60's we headed off to the most fashionable tea I'd ever seen. We drank our tea and dined on colorful treats inspired by the Autumn/Winter collections from London Fashion Week 2009. Our stomachs were soon filled with Burbery Prorsum trench coat cookies and Christian Dior sushi rolls so we called it a day and headed back home to our friends lovely house in St. Johnswood (a quick Tube ride from London). At home we received the disappointing news that my lacrosse game with the England National Team had been canceled due to the bad weather. But with my Harpeth Hall lacrosse season still ahead of me I went out for my nightly run through the neighborhood. Though our mothers headed out for Quiz Night at the local pub (I can only imagine how that went...), the kids and I stayed home and had a nice night in.Friday, January 15, 2010
